NFAAA Meeting

The National Fire Academy Alumni Association* will hold its annual membership meeting. There is a lot to discuss regarding the NFA and USFA, and the meeting will feature a guest speaker from the NFA/USFA, the financial secretary’s report, and the administrator’s report. Mingle with the NFAAA’s main sponsors, Pennwell/Fire Engineering and Delmar Publishers. Bring a fellow alumnus! Refreshments will be served.
*The NFAAA has 21,000 members and is comprised of fire and emergency services personnel from all over the country and beyond. Its mission is to support the National Fire Academy and the U.S. Fire Administration in their efforts to protect people from the ravages of fire and other hazards.

FOOLS Annual Leadership and Planning Meeting

The Fraternal Order Of Leatherheads Society will hold its first annual Leadership and Planning meeting. All chapter presidents, officers, and members in attendance at FDIC 2009 of the various FOOLS chapters from around the world are encouraged to attend and submit suggestions for training and activities sponsored by FOOLS International. They will be discussed and voted on at the FOOLS International Convention 2009. Captain Mike Dugan of FDNY will discuss leadership in the fire service. International FOOLS President Eric DePoto will lead a strategic planning session outlining the International’s vision for the upcoming year’s FOOLS-sponsored training, proactive community-based activities, and social networking for FOOLS International. Also on the agenda, any item you would like submitted for consideration by the Board will be accepted. Pres. DePoto will outline the plans for the FOOLS International Annual Convention, to be held in York, Maine, in June 2009. The FOOLS are proud to announce that they have signed an MOU endorsing Fire Engineering as its official magazine and FireEngineering.com as its official training Web site. The FOOLS have also committed to a long-term relationship with Fire Engineering and identified FDIC as the official meeting place for the FOOLS Annual Leadership and Planning Meeting.
Stop, Drop, Rock ‘n’ Roll

Featuring live country and western entertainment, firefighter pipe and drum bands, along with food, beverages, and a live auction, the event’s proceeds benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The Courage to Be Safe

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation has joined virtually every other fire service organization in an effort to reduce preventable firefighter line-of-duty deaths (LODDs). Through its Everyone Goes Home program, the Courage to Be Safe curriculum was developed to offer methodologies and solutions for fire departments and firefighters to attack the causes of unacceptable deaths and injuries. The program is based on the 16 Life Safety Initiatives, which were the product of a historic summit held involving all the major national fire service organizations. This program will offer the most current version of the Courage to Be Safe program.
NAFTD Meeting

The North American Fire Training Directors (NAFTD), comprised of the 50 states and the Canadian provinces and territorial training directors, will conduct its annual spring meeting. The meeting will be for members only and invited guests such as Dr. Denis Onieal, superintendent of the National Fire Academy, will provide an update on the Federal Fire Programs and various committee reports. Typical agenda items include topics pertinent to the management of a state, provincial, or territorial training program.

Come and renew acquaintances with the Indianapolis firefighters at the Union Hall. Plenty of great food and refreshments will be served. Transportation will be provided to and from the Convention Center beginning at 5:15 pm until 10:00 pm.

Second Annual FDIC Courage and Valor Fun Run

Firefighters, members of the fire service equipment and service industries, and citizens of Indiana, mark your calendar and lace up your running shoes. All proceeds go to help sponsor the Ray Downey Courage and Valor Medal and Award presented each year at FDIC. We will gather again to share the laughter, joy, and family that define the fire service. Join with us regardless of whether you run a 17.30 or you walk with your coffee as long as it takes--all are welcome. National Fire Department Honor Guard Competition

Each year, fire department honor guard teams from across the country compete in a national event that has become a regular part of the Saturday program at FDIC. Teams are judged on neatness, uniformity, cleanliness, and military bearing. Past teams have come from Birmingham, AL; Howard County, MD; Kokomo, IN; Lexington, KY; Columbia, MO; and St. Paul, NM; as well as teams from Indiana. Why not have your team represented this year?
