UL has been a leader in researching fire service response to battery energy storage systems (BESS). This class will provide an update on current research projects conducted by UL in collaboration with UL FSRI and the IAFF under a working agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy. The project goals include developing potential indicators for responding firefighters of the involvement of a BESS or EV in a house fire. The project is also evaluating explosion hazards associated with battery involvement and potential ventilation risks or strategies.
