Captain (Ret.) and Past President, Women in Fire, Baltimore County (MD) Fire Department
ANGELA HUGHES (ret.) began her experience with the career Fire Service in 1989 as a Paramedic with the Baltimore City Fire Department. She was hired by Baltimore County in 1992 and functioned as a Paramedic, Preceptor/Coach, Firefighter, Fire Marshal, Lieutenant, and Fire Captain. As the co- founder of the Baltimore County Women in the Fire Service she mentored women locally and served as the President of Women in Fire from 2015 through 2019. Her Committee work includes the USFA Severity of House Fires, FEMA grant reviews, VCOS Diversity and Inclusion, National Fallen Firefighters Tampa 2, NFFF Suicide Symposium, NFPA Needs Assessment Summit and The NFPA First Responder Forum. Captain Hughes has been published in Fire Rescue magazine, serves on the FDIC/Fire Engineering Advisory Board, and provided the “Be Your Own Hero” keynote speech at FDIC 2017.
