Becoming Undeniable: A New Look at Recruiting Women into the Fire Service
TCF3, or Twin Cities Female Firefighter Fitness, is a group of women in the fire service that is using physical fitness as a tool to reach women in the community that are looking to become Firefighters. TCF3 hosts monthly workouts and larger Expos to become a resource for these women. This group firmly believe that women belong in the fire service, but refuses to see the standard changed or altered so women can join. Instead, the focus in on helping women rise up to meet and surpass the standard. By tackling the physical aspect of this job, TCF3 believes that we can help women prove that they undeniably belong.
We desire to share our program with other fire departments, in the hopes of encouraging others to look at how they are recruiting women. We believe that with a focus on physical fitness, and front loading the pathway of a potential candidate, this program can help departments secure female candidates that are more prepared physically and mentally than before. We will share our program layout, our sucsesses, as well our areas that need improvement as this group and recruiting platform grows and evolves as we work to develop women into members of the fireservie who are Undeniable.
