Chief Officers to Recruits: A Mindset for Improving Search and Rescue

Tuesday, April 21
This class will discuss how to reduce risk to our civilians by understanding the departments mindset. When companies or members are operating with different mentalities, risk increases. Examine historical data, real stories, experience, training, standards, and expectations. Review our standards and expectations of search, that allow personnel to understand what the search is most likely going to look like. Incident commanders should be able to look at a building and understand how the search company will enter and move throughout the structure. Company officers and firefighters are expected to have the same understanding as their IC but also understand that giving the update of when, where, and why will improve accountability.
