Coordinating Ventilation: Supporting Extinguishment and Survivability

Wednesday, April 22
Ventilation can make or break the outcome of a fire. Successful execution requires a comprehension of how the tactics work and the precautions that must be taken to ensure coordination. This class examines ventilation and its relationship with fire behavior; firefighting operations; and, most importantly, victim survivability. By coupling past experience with the latest research findings and data, the best practices and common pitfalls are identified to optimize incident outcomes. A set of guiding principles and practices is provided to establish an operational baseline. The framework is universal and can be applied to any environment--from rural to urban communities. With a practical understanding of ventilation, participants can more consistently make the right call for their fireground and leverage ventilation to its fullest extent.
