Efficient & Effective Commercial Forcible Entry: Bigger Buildings Present Bigger Challenges

Friday, April 24
Room 101-102

Commercial building fires are one of our biggest challenges in the American fire service. On top of dealing with the size of the structure, we have to also factor in dealing with the unique forcible entry challenges that present on these large scale buildings. Business owners are becoming more clever with the ways they secure their properties, and we cannot show up to the fireground with outdated residential forcible entry tactics for modern aged commercial buildings. We have to be ready to address modern building construction, fortified doors, special fabricated locks, and security features that will challenges us at height. During this program we will discuss how to properly pre-plan structures, how to identify modern style locks, and how to defeat them with conventional fire service tools, as well as some of the newer style tools entering today’s fire service. This presentation is delivered with passionate street experience, from a fire service leader who has participated in many commercial firegrounds where forcible entry was the challenge of fireground operations.
