Fireground Strategies: Strategic Decision Making 2026
This presentation will address criteria required to make proper strategic decisions on the fire and emergency ground. These dynamic decisions, based on arrival and forecasted conditions as well as ongoing situational evaluation, are used to address the situation at hand, the escalation potential, and deploy the proper resources to the right place and provide the basis for reporting and subsequent incident evaluation. Strategy selection considerations, cues for strategic modification, and the steps for strategic transition for offensive to defensive (and vice versa) will be discussed. Situational strategic issues will be highlighted by case stuides and lessons learned analysis. Additional alarm considerations as well as the critical nature of standard operating procedures and fireground discipine as the foundation of command and control will be covered.
