Firehouse Law: Mapping the Minefield in 2026
They just don't stop--changes in the law, that is. Over the past year, there've been a record number of Presidential executive orders, a surprising number of which affect the fire service. So while the National Fire Academy is back in action, FEMA is still unstable. The U.S. Supreme Court has changed a number of its harassment standards and continues to expand workplace religion accommodation standards. The EEOC is reviewing Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and Title VII harassment rules, with major changes expected. Availability of ADA benefits for retired firefighters is on the table. And free speech remains a significant hot-button issue. So how's a fire service leader to keep up?
