Maximizing Water Supply with Drafting
This class will explore the principles of drafting, the equipment needed, and how to perform a successful drafting operation to achieve a sustained fire flow. It will address drafting operations in urban and suburban areas when the public water supply is compromised with a special emphasis on setup, operating, and water delivery in urban and suburban applications. Emphasis will be on depth of cover, how to identify good vs. marginal drafting locations, and using alternative water supplies for drafting purposes. Review how to draft when the primer doesn't function, the impact of using front suction vs. side suction ports especially on water volume, the impact of leaking tank-to-pump valves when drafting, and how to prevent a leaking tank-to-pump valve from shutting down your drafting operation.
