Roadway Operations for Firefighters and EMTs
In the past six years, 45 firefighters and EMS personnel have been struck and killed while working an incident on the nation's roadways. Incidents such as crash scenes and vehicle fires present unique hazards that firefighters and EMTs often do not find themselves adequately trained for. This class will take a look at the risks presented during roadway incidents and what actions fire and EMS personnel must take to protect themselves when working these incidents. An understanding of the risks and the necessary safety procedures must be incorporated into every department's training requirements and standard operating procedures. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss actions incorporated at their own department and how regulations, standards, equipment, training, and best practices can help prevent injury or death at incidents on the roadways.
