Strategic and Tactical Operations in Residential Sprinklered Occupancies

Wednesday, April 22
Room 103
This class will introduce strategic and tactical considerations for fire department operations in sprinklered residential occupancies. As these systems become more prevalent, we as the fire service need to know and understand how to fight fires within these occupancies as well as how to effectively interact with these systems. Fire sprinkler systems in dwellings like one- and two-family homes, townhomes, condos, and apartments all differ, sometimes significantly; accordingly, strategy and tactics need to as well. This class will also address what builders can do differently in fire sprinklered communities that can highly impact operations, including concepts like reductions in fire flow, increases in hydrant spacing, increased building density, less fire-retardant building materials, longer dead-end roads, single-access neighborhoods, and other significant operational concerns.
