The Andragogy of Simulation in EMS
Andragogy refers to the principles of adult education. There are many differences in teaching children (pedagogy) and adults (andragogy). Understanding these differences is critical for the success of your students. Many EMS education programs have some form of simulation, from simple CPR manikins to computer-based programs, from VR to high fidelity simulation and standardized patients. But there are no formal programs (andragogy) available to orient educators to properly use simulation in EMS education. Learn the fundamentals of simulation that includes a quick start guide to such areas as PreBrief, Simulation Management, Debriefing, and Evaluation using Kirkpatrick Model. This session is loaded with ideas and nuggets to help begin the path from pedagogy to andragogy to get the most out of simulation and the classroom.
