On 9/11, the FDNY facilitated the safe evacuation of more than 15,000 people from the Twin Towers, the largest rescue operation in U.S. history. Join Clifford Chanin, Director of the 9/11 Memorial Museum, as he provides an in-depth look at this response and the overwhelming sacrifice borne by the FDNY during and after the attacks. Drawing upon the 9/11 Commission Report, oral histories, and the Museum’s extensive archive, you will hear how FDNY personnel at all levels stepped up in the face of the unimaginable. This presentation serves to highlight the extremes of what service looks like and the enduring legacy of the FDNY twenty-five years later.
