Top Down Structure Triage for Rapid Decisions in the WUI
The class will provide the current tactical information necessary to accurately assess the fire's potential impact to the threatened structures and apply the systematic "Top Down" Triage process to make rapid decision for effectiveness in the WUI. It will cover critical fire behavior and aid the first-arriving responder or the company officer in the safest and most efficient initial tactical actions in dynamic wildland urban interface. The primary focus will be on rapid recognition of fire threats and using a triage process, then correctly selecting from a variety of tactical actions the one most appropriate to increase the number of structures defended. Only by improving one's understanding of the dynamics of wildland fire behavior can a firefighter make a rapid selection of tactical actions, accurate assessments of personnel safety, and appropriate triage decisions.
