Avoiding Legal Pitfalls in EMS Documentation

Monday, April 15
Precon Workshop
Leadership/Management

Documentation is the cornerstone of every EMS run, and getting it wrong can not only mean life or death, but it can cost the EMT/paramedic a career. Unfortunately, the current culture of EMS typically means run reports are finished or even started back at the station almost as an afterthought; however, documentation should be considered a part of patient care and should hold the same weight. When good documentation is not put at the forefront of training and importance, you leave yourself open to legal litigation, which is easily prevented with proper training. This presentation will cover best practices in documentation and how to avoid the legal ramifications when run reports are not written clearly.
