Heavy Extrication
Heavy vehicles are constructed much differently than regular vehicles. Therefore, normal vehicle extrication techniques will not accomplish the objective of safe patient removal. This class will prepare students for the differences in incidents involving heavy vehicles and the types of extrication scenarios that are found with these vehicles. Covering vehicle design and construction and how this relates to the incident, students will be able to perform various techniques on actual heavy vehicles, including semi trailers and larger commercial vehicles. Students will participate in techniques that include rescue from side underrides, rollovers, and rear underrides and the use of rotating wreckers to assist in the rescue of potential victims.
