Residential Primary Search: Making the Grab

Monday, April 15
HOT 4 Hour
Truck Company

Each year, more than 2,000 civilians are killed in structure fires. When we make life safety our number one priority, all of our actions should be about searching and supporting the primary search. We give victims the best chance for survival when an aggressive primary search is completed and victims are removed within the first 10 minutes of arrival. This fast-paced class focuses on the fundamentals of searching, good communications, and having a search plan. Students will be taught ways to maximize their efficiency, get real-time reps, and learn simple drags for victim removal. On completion of this course, students will have a good understanding of where victims are likely to be found; the time factor involved in increasing the chance of survival; and how to perform oriented search, split search, and vent-enter-search and be able to complete a hasty search as part of the initial-arriving unit.

PPE Required: NFPA-compliant structural firefighting pants, coat, hood, gloves, boots, and helmet. (SCBA and face piece will be provided.)

*Eligible for CEH/CAPCE Credit
