Dealing with Difficult People: A Hands-On Leadership Workshop for Real-World Personnel Challenges (21WEDPM)
Fire officers receive thousands of hours of training on strategy, tactics, incident command, fire behavior, and emergency operations. Yet many are promoted into leaderhsip positions with little or no formal training on how to handle the difficult people and disruptive behaviors that threaten morale, culture, retention, and organizational performance.
Every day, fire service leaders encounter gossip, bullying, entitlement, policy violations, disgruntled employees, interpersonal conflict, resisteance to change, and other behaviors that create stress throughout the organziation. Left unaddressed, these issues damage trust, increase turnover, consume leadership time, and negatively impact team performance. Left unchecked, the smoldering ember will eventually burn the place down.
This highly-interactive Hands-On Training workshop transforms participants from passive learners into active decision-makers. Working in teams, particpants will analyze reaistic fire service scenarios, debate possible solutions, determine appropriate leadership actions, and defend their decisions before their peers.
Participants will evaluate whether situations call for coaching, mentoring, counseling, corrective actions, policy enforcement, or formal discipline. They will practice communicaiton techniques, body language strategies, documentation methods, and decision-making processes designed to address difficult behavior while preserving professionalis, accountability, and organizational culture.
The workshop culminates with particpants reviewing policy manuals, identifying policy gaps, evaluating whether proposed actions are supported by exisiting policy, and developing recommendations to strengthen organizational expectation and accountability.
This is not a lecaure about difficult people. It is a leadership labratory designed to help officers develop the confidence, communication skills, and practical tools necessary to address difficult personnel situations before they become organziational problems.
I am willing to teach this throughout the week to get as many people through the class as possible, and sell my book. I can work within the EMS track as well.
