Search Operations and Victim Removal (22THURPM)
Little Things, Big Differences is a class that focuses on the finer points of search operations and victim removal. This class goes into detail about body positioning for effective search, using hands to sweep, sift and feel for victims, learning to maintain orientation, how to communicate with other crew members, tool selection, tool placement, isolation and ventilation practices during search as well as how to remove victims from the structure while being mindful of the toxic and thermal threats to the unprotected airway, keeping airways in optimal position for a positive outcome. This search class goes into detail and repetition for how to effectively search a room full of contents, how to clear beds, cribs and furniture and how to implement these skills into daily operations. Discussion and ideas will be given for training and how to discuss search culture with other crew members as well as throughout an orginization. Students will gain understanding of why the small details of search and victim removal are so important to the outcome of the incident and how training on and implementing these practices will make a big difference not only in the effectiveness and speed of their own operations but in the outcome of the people that they serve.
