Training Officer and Instructor Graduate School 2027: Building and Measuring Readiness (41MA)
The Training Officer and Instructor Graduate School 2027 is designed for fire service instructors, company-level trainers, and current or aspiring training officers who are responsible for building readiness, not just delivering drills. This year's course is built on 27 years of delivery at FDIC and is centered on the evolving role of the training officer. This session connects adult learning, current NFPA training expectations, risk-based program design, instructor development, and performance-based evaluation into a practical model for modern fire department training.
Participants will examine how today’s training officer must manage competing demands: limited staffing, generational learning differences, documentation expectations, budget and facility constraints, curriculum changes, emerging hazards, and the need to prove competency beyond attendance. Through focused discussion, short exercises, scenario analysis, and peer collaboration, attendees will evaluate their current training practices against the real-world demands of career, volunteer, and combination departments.
The program emphasizes how to design, deliver, document, and evaluate training that produces street-level results. Attendees will leave with practical tools, discussion models, and action steps for improving company-level drills, instructor effectiveness, competency validation, and the overall credibility of the department training program.
