Many firefighters understand what they need to do to prevent exposure to the toxins that cause cancer, but are we doing all we can to reduce the severity of cancer? The facts is firefighters are dying from cancer at a higher rate than the general population. Could this be due to late discovery? With a focus on screenings for cancer, this program will look at early detection through cancer screenings. The student will learn the importance of early detection, what they can do personally, what cancer screenings are available, what the science says and the benefits and risks associated with each screening. We will share the successes and challenges of setting up your own cancer screenings.
