DANIEL MADRZYKOWSKI, PhD, FSFPE, is the director of research at UL's Fire Safety Research Institute. For 30 yrs, Dan has led research efforts to improve firefighter effectiveness. He is a member of NFPA's Fire Service Training and Structural Firefighting (NFPA 1700) TCs. Dan has been the recipient of several awards including: ISFSI Instructor of the Year, the rank of honorary battalion chief with the FDNY, the Granito Award, the Citizens Service Award, and the IAFC Presidents Award. He earned a B.S. and an M.S. from the U of Maryland and his PhD in fire engineering from the U of Canterbury.
