Michael Varney

Director Stakeholder Collaboration , FirstNet Authority

Michael Varney is the FirstNet Authority Director of Stakeholder Collaboration responsible for supporting FirstNet consultation efforts across the US. 

He joined FirstNet in 2015, after serving for over 28 years in Information Technology and Public Safety Communications positions at the State of Connecticut, where he most recently served as the Statewide Interoperability Coordinator and FirstNet State Point of Contact. 

In his current role, Michael is responsible for FirstNet Authority’s experiential programs, event and incident planning and support as well as acting as a Fire Service Subject Matter Expert. 

In addition, Michael has a strong public safety background serving for over 35 years at the local, state and regional level in the fire and emergency medical services, including 14 years as Fire Chief.
