Ray Downey Scholarship - New For 2027!
Ray Downey began his fire service career in 1962, following in the footsteps of his two older brothers, and he served in some of FDNY’s busiest and most respected companies. Rising through the ranks from firefighter to battalion chief, he was widely recognized for his leadership, for his commitment to training the next generation, for his role as an Editorial Advisory Board member of Fire Engineering and FDIC International, and as the author of The Rescue Company (Fire Engineering Books), all of which left a lasting impact on the fire service.
In honor of his enduring legacy, FDIC has established the Ray Downey Scholarship to support the continued development of today’s fire and rescue professionals. This scholarship will be awarded to two highly motivated and dedicated fire service members, each of whom will receive a full conference experience to FDIC International 2027.
The application will close on September 11, 2026.
Scholarship recipients will be notified in October.
